Setup MAR custom template

Preparing your artwork information before uploading can save time when adding several artworks to My Art Registry. The MAR custom template brings the supported metadata fields together in Adobe Bridge, helping you add information to your Thumbnail files as part of your preparation workflow.

Metadata is optional for Bulk Upload. If you choose to prepare it in advance, MAR reads the supported XMP metadata embedded in each Thumbnail and maps it to your artwork automatically.

What You Need

Before you begin, have Adobe Bridge, the Custom Metadata Panel extension, and the MAR custom template file available on your computer.

The template file, MAR_Metadata_1.0.json, defines the fields shown in the Custom Metadata Panel. It is a View definition, rather than a preset containing artwork information or an ordinary Bridge .xmp Metadata Template.

Open the Custom Metadata Panel

Install the Custom Metadata Panel for Bridge through Adobe Exchange and Creative Cloud. Relaunch Bridge after installation, then open Window > Extensions > Custom Metadata.

Add the MAR Custom Template

  1. In the Custom Metadata Panel, open Preferences.
  2. Choose Tab Management, then + Create New Tab.
  3. Enter MAR Artwork Metadata as the tab name and choose Local.
  4. Click the JSON file drop area to select MAR_Metadata_1.0.json, or drag the file onto that area.
  5. Save the tab and Tab Manager changes, then click Done if shown.
  6. Open the MAR Artwork Metadata tab.

Load the file through Tab Management. Import Preset, Bridge's ordinary Metadata Template or File Info Import commands, and settings-file imports expect different kinds of files.

Add Information to Your Thumbnail

Select a Thumbnail JPEG in Bridge and enter the information for that artwork.

Under General Artwork Data, you can prepare Category, Title, Description, and Created for both Print and Digital artworks. Keep Title between 1 and 80 characters and Description between 50 and 500 characters. For Created, enter the creation date; MAR imports only the year.

For Print artworks, Print Data (optional) also provides Artwork size unit, Artwork width, Artwork height, and Media type. Enter physical artwork dimensions, rather than image pixel dimensions. Supply the unit, width, and height together, or leave all three empty.

Choose Category and Media type from the dropdowns so the template writes the corresponding MAR values. Mixed techniques applies to Print artworks; AI art applies to Digital artworks.

Click Save Changes, then reselect the Thumbnail to check that the values have been saved. The asterisks shown in the form do not make metadata mandatory for Bulk Upload.

Prepare for Bulk Upload

Make sure the metadata is embedded in the Thumbnail you will upload. MAR does not import metadata from the Print file or Image file.

Check the saved information and filenames before selecting your files in MAR. After the upload task ends, review the imported information in Temporary Artworks and complete any remaining details through the Draft artwork workflow before publishing.
